Ban somking in illinos's bar and restaurant
152,000$ that what SIU spending every year to clean the ashtrays and fans around the university, and if u look to this number you can say (what a big number!!) actually siu can spend such as this number to developing the university.
Ban smoking in Carbondale (ill) is a very good movement to protect our self and our children from the risk of smiling smoke of cigarette, but the problem are they going to vote for it in Carbondale or not? Bar owners are surly against ban smoking cause they thing it going to kill their business, but I don't thing that will happened because all restaurants and bars will be the same (smoking free).
Two week ago I spoke with waiters in one restaurant about this, and what happened is;
-Do you thing ban smoking is good or bad and why?
-She was like I don't like smoke any way but, I thing this will kill our business.

Tiger in dnger
"Tigers Fossils are known from the late Pliocene/early Pleistocene of southeastern Asia. A small primitive tiger was living in North China during the early Pleistocene. between 1.3 and 2.1 million years ago, tigers were living in Java...from about two million years ago, tigers spread from their evolutionary centre in eastern Asia in two directions. tigers moved through the Central Asian woodlands to the west and southwest gave rise to the Caspian tigers”. (Hemmer, 1987). But now you can find them in India, China, Nepal and Indonesia. According to the WWF (World Wildlife Fund) the numbers of tigers are decreasing sharply and there are not more than (5700-7500) (www.worldwildlife.com) left in the entire world.
The cause of this has many reasons, like the huge expansion in the human
population, the specialized tiger hunters, business development in tiger habitats,
culture and religious (some people believe that eating tiger's heart giving them
strength and power) beliefs which a few people use tiger's part for medicinal reasons
people and government must do something about this, like, educate the tiger's buyers,
support any animal organization like WWF, and provide special programs on the TV and radio to express how this special animal is facing a really big danger. Also laws should be made and strictly enforced to protect the tiger's future generations, and we could increase a fine on people who are trading tiger's part.
Tiger parts are very expensive, but people still collect them around the world, like the skins, bones. More than 200 kg were exported to South Korea alone in 1993 according to WWF (www.worldwildlife.com) and the skeleton. Much of the slaughtered tiger is destined for the Chinese medicine market. Aside from being used as medicine, tiger parts like claws and bones are use for curiosity. Even the tiger penis is also used as an aphrodisiac, and many people have tigers as decoration in their houses and others keep them as pets. that's why poor hunters (people in the small village who's they haven't finished their education and without job) are trying to find any way to hunt this animal, and make money from each part of it, and I don't think there is an easy way to stop them, because they have a really strong world wide network around the world, like (Hong Kong, Japan and Taiwan), with transit point country like Singapore.
Moreover if we looked to the weak law we will find it without any evidence,
because the tiger poachers bring nothing that can be used as an evidence, so they really
know what they are doing. In the country like Indonesia the maximum punishment for
the tiger poacher is 5 years in prison and $25,000 as fine, I think that is one of the ways to stop poaching tigers and with more patrols in tiger habitat, it would be more controlled. In all over East Asia, it's too easy to buy what ever you want from shops, like, food, clothes, and tiger's part! So the government must do something about this, like, close the shops, fine the owners, or even prison is good solution.
Although The buyer too, every county must have advertisements all over the place, like, in the airport, shopping center, zoo and the street, to explain and express how and why the tiger's life is in danger. In this way, I think we will give both citizens and tourists an idea, about tiger life, and how it is facing a big problem. Supporting the animal organization like WWF or volunteer are good idea for the people who like helping animals around the world, especially when such as (WWF) have branches around the world, they working around the world to protect endangered wildlife, preserve wild lands and address global threats and challenges. although this work would not be possible if it weren't for the dedicated support of our members and conservation partners. “ There are a number of ways that you can join WWF in its fight to save a living planet. Learn more about these opportunities and the benefits that come with your promise to protection. With WWF you can become a force for nature”(www.worldwildlife.com).
The second problem facing tiger life is losing habitat. As forest space is reduced, the number of animals left in the forest is reduced, as a result tigers begin to eat the farm animals of villagers who live near them. Sometimes tigers even attack humans. People sometimes kill the tigers in order to protect themselves and their farm animal, aside from this problem is the human population moves to the forest areas, so because of this tigers have very small chance to meet each other so the reproduction was decreased.
So after all this, do you think it's too late, or to you think is there are chances
of breeding the tiger again? For the first time in six years there is evidence of breeding tigers in Vietnam, providing new hope for their future in that country (www.panda.org).
Surveys conducted by WWF and Vietnam's Forest Protection Department between January and June 2004 found two sets of tiger tracks in the Truong Son mountain region, one set belonging to a mother and cub. Tigers are believed to exist in low densities in Vietnam, but this is the first evidence of breeding in recent years. Finding evidence of a cub is great news and proof that Vietnam has a breeding population of tigers, but it's key that we protect not just the tigers, but also their habitat and the species they prey on to ensure that the population grows (www.nfwf.org).
So far all the zoos in the world are focusing on the quantity, and they should focus on the quality, that's why Zoo arks build genetic reservoirs of endangered species to insure against their extinction. Zoos must also balance the needs of all species, not just tigers. More exhibits for tigers mean fewer for jaguars or clouded leopards. Zoos must work together in order to efficiently manage as many endangered species as possible. To protect genetically healthy captive populations, zoos must work together to manage all of the individuals of a specific species as one large interbreeding population within their county or region of the world. The Zoo Ark includes the entire world of zoos, not just zoos in one country or region, like what happened in Thailand's zoo when bird flu hit the 83 tigers and killed 32 of them, however without the information network between the zoo's maybe we will have been facing bigger number of dead tiger's in all of Asia (www.bigcatrescue.org)
Although the tiger is a beautiful animal. But that is not the reason why we are asking for it to be saved. When we save the tiger, we save the forest it lives in and, in turn, our water sources. For tigers to live, we have to make sure that deer and all other animals that the tiger eats also survive. This can only be done by protecting the trees, grasses and plants that these animals eat. In this way, the whole forest together with insects, birds and animals gets saved!
Therefore, we have to start doing something, tigers and their 8 species are in real danger, there are less than 8000 tigers left in the entire world, this tiger that is known for more than 2 million yeas” (www.worldwildlife.com). ago facing many threats, like, the huge expansion in the human population, and losses in habitat. However, hunting is for pleasure, religious, or medical reasons. We must do something about all that, we have to stop the hunters, especially the hunters who lives in small villages around Asia, because they are poor and without any education, they are killing these tigers either to protect themselves from such adangerous animals, or by selling tiger's parts to China's market to have money in order to feed their hungry children. Poaching tiger's habitat is also pushing tigers to live separate, and that effecting tiger's breeding, aside of this problem when peoples are poaching tiger's habitat, tigers will find people's animal and people them selves a good target as a food, so tigers start attacking them and facing hunters with guns.
Supporting any animal organization such as WWF (www.worldwildlife.com), by money and suggestions are the beginning to help tigers, and the way to be an active member in one of these organizations is not so difficult, you only have to visit their web site to have full information. Although the government must protect any endanger species, especially tigers, golden monkeys and dolphins by protecting the habitat, and punish and fine hunters, and by special programs to educate the people, however, hunters, or regular people, and use TV and radio for that. Finally I believe that the way is not difficult, but all of us must start helping these animals, and believe it or not you will find many way to help, if you decide, no matter if you are a Student, Doctor, Teacher or Farmer.
